Meet Our Pastor

Meet our pastor here at Sperring Memorial Baptist Church!

Reverend (Dr.) John Harris

Reverend John Harris, a Red Springs, North Carolina native, is the youngest of fifteen children and a graduate of Peterson High School. After confessing Christ at fifteen, he began serving at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church. He went on to complete twenty years of honorable service in the United States Army, with assignments in Hawaii, South Korea, and Germany.

A devoted father to Marshel and John Jr., Reverend Harris answered his call to ministry in 1994. He has served in numerous leadership roles—including Interim Pastor, Director of Christian Education, Sunday School Superintendent, and Pastor of churches in Virginia and North Carolina.

He holds a Master of Theology and a Doctor of Religious Education from Cornerstone College and Seminary, along with degrees in Management and Information Systems. A gifted teacher, he has served as dean and instructor for Cornerstone’s extension programs and is frequently called upon to teach on church leadership, discipleship, stewardship, and spiritual growth.

Reverend Harris is known for his steady leadership, clear biblical teaching, and commitment to equipping God’s people. His life purpose is reflected in John 8:32: “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
